چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disorder with various disturbances in biochemical processes such as antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation. The aim of present study was evaluation of the oxidative stress markers in saliva of T2DM patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, 80 (40 T2DM and 40 control) individuals were assessed. The salivary total antioxidants capacity and lipid peroxidation were determined by the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) method and Thiobarbituric acid reactant substances (TBARS) assay, respectively. Results: Total salivary antioxidants value was significantly lower in T2DM patients compared with healthy controls (P -value: 0.01). A significant increase in lipid peroxidation was seen in T2DM (P-value: 0.0001). Conclusion: The findings of the present study suggest that diabetic patients confront a disturbed state of antioxidant defense, especially the reduction in total antioxidant capacity of body.

Correlation of Oral Health Status and Salivary Antioxidant Capacity in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: Dental caries is considered as one of the major complication of diabetes mellitus. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) demonstrate evidence of oxidant–antioxidant imbalances in their biological fluids such as saliva. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation of oral health status and salivary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in T2DM. Materials and Methods...

Antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation in type II diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM), a state of chronic hyperglycaemia, is a common disease affecting over 124 million individuals worldwide. In this study, erythrocyte glutathione levels, lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase and some extracellular antioxidant protein levels of patients with type II diabetes mellitus and healthy controls were investigated. Thirty-ei...

Status of Antioxidant Enzymes and Lipid Peroxidation in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Micro Vascular Complications

In diabetic patients, persistence of hyperglycemia has been reported as a cause of increased production of oxygen free radicals. Hyperglycemia could induce oxidative stress and become the main factor for predisposing the complications in diabetes. The study is being aimed to find out the status of lipid peroxidation product i.e. malondialdehyde (MDA) and antioxidant enzymes (AOEs) such as gluta...

Antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation end products in patients of type 1 diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE In Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), hyperglycemia is considered a primary cause of diabetic vascular complications and is associated with oxidative stress. The role of antioxidants, particularly alpha tocopherol, in Type 1 DM and its contribution in the development of vascular complications is not clear. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the relationship be...
